President Donald Trump likes to do things on the weekends.
He likes to golf.
He likes to attend weddings at Mar-a-Lago.
And he likes to ride in golf carts with his hands up in the air, waving them like he just doesn't care.
So when a reporter asked him today if he was going to a very important (like, super important) event this weekend, you would think the president would enthusiastically say yes. Unfortunately, for his son, that was not the case.
In the middle of today's press conference with the EPA Administrator, a reporter asked, "Are you attending your son's wedding this weekend?"
Trump said, "Uhhhh, he'd like me to go, but it's gonna be just a small, little, private affair."
"I'm gonna try and make it," he continued. "I'm in the midst, I said, 'You know, this is not good timing for me.' There's a thing called Iran and other things."
"That's one I can't win on," he said. "If I do attend, I get killed. If I don't attend, I get killed by the fake news, of course, I'm talking about."
Then he started to seemingly scramble: "But he's uh...got a very a...a person I've known for a long time — and hopefully, they're gonna have a great marriage."
The son he is referring to is Donald Trump Jr., who is reportedly getting married to model Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas over the holiday weekend. This will be Donald's second marriage and Bettina's first. He was first married to Vanessa Trump, who just announced on Wednesday that she has breast cancer
Rightfully so, this clip garnered a lot of attention on Twitter (now known as X).
"Stealing 'I have a thing called Iran and other things' as my new default excuse for getting out of plans I don't want to go to," someone said.
"Grandpa saying that his own son is someone he’s known for a long time is probably enough internet for today," one user said.
"He has been golfing every weekend since the Iran war began, but can't attend his son's wedding because he has a thing called Iran and other things. What a shitty father," someone wrote.
"Not sure if he’s a worse father or president," another added.
"Tell me that you don't love your kid without telling me that you don't love your kid," one person said.
And finally, "These aren't important events in this family."
