Remember when this guy won the election?
Yeah, me too...
He promised a bunch of things.
Lower grocery prices.
That America would be great again (again).
And gas would be cheap, cheap, cheap!
It's...debatable...how many of these promises have actually come to fruition, but one thing is for sure — gas is so expensive.
All over the country, prices at the pump seem to keep on rising and rising. According to AAA, average gas prices have risen 50% since the start of the US and Israel's war with Iran.
But it's hard to gauge just how much prices have climbed recently. It seems like every single time I pass a gas station, the prices are different, and not in a good way!!!
Luckily, Emmalyn Schroeder (@emmalyn_schroeder) has been tracking gas prices since November 2024.
She recently posted a video that's now been viewed over a million times, showing how much gas costs in her small town in Missouri when Trump was elected versus now, 17 months later.
A week after the election, on Nov. 12, 2024, premium gas was $2.289 per gallon for Schroeder.
To fill up her entire car with premium gas cost $37.75.
Less than $40!!!! For gas!!!!!!! Yearning...
Cut to now.
THUNDER CRACK!
On May 4, 2026, Schroeder passed by that same gas station. This time, gas cost $3.99 per gallon.
Which, she says, was already 59 cents more expensive than it was a few days before.
And, it was $1.70 more per gallon than when she got gas in November 2024.
That's a 74% increase!
The next morning, it was finally time for Schroeder to fill up her tank.
DUN DUN DUN!!!!!!
She pulled up to the station on May 5, 2026. The prices had gone up even more.
Now, regular unleaded gas was $4.19.
FOUR DOLLARS AND NINETEEN CENTS!
A 20-cent increase OVERNIGHT.
Yeah.
From Nov. 12, 2024, to May 5, 2026, the price of gas in Schroeder's small town in Missouri increased by 83%.
Schroeder's video confirmed what many of us have been feeling. Things are getting out of hand.
In her comments, people were commiserating about how much their own gas prices have climbed lately.
It seems like the advice "take it day by day" doesn't really help at all anymore. Things are changing too quickly!
Even though some other things stay the same.
People have their theories about why exactly things are so expensive.
And some questions...
One thing's for sure, though. My hair will be completely gray by the time 2028 rolls around.
