This weekend, a shooter opened fire at a White House security checkpoint.
A 21-year-old suspect traded shots with Secret Service and was killed. According to PBS reporting, the suspect had been arrested before for attempting to enter another White House checkpoint without permission.
Donald Trump was reportedly at the White House during the incident and afterward thanked the Secret Service on Truth Social. In his post, he emphasized the need for a bunker to protect future presidents' safety, writing, "The National Security of the Country demands it!"
At the time of the shooting, NBC News correspondent Julie Tsirkin was filming outside of the White House, and her live reaction is going viral. You can watch the full clip here.
As loud shots rang out for five to six seconds, Tsirkin paused, looked behind her, and asked, "What is that?"
"Sounds like fireworks," someone off camera responded, as she leaned closer toward the sound.
As the shots continued and sirens blared, she turned to look off camera in pure confusion.
Over 3.6 million on X have seen the video, and in the comments, everyone is pretty disturbed.
"Tell me you're American without telling me. Gunshot sounds become the *norm* and you get so desensitized to it."
"HIT THE FUCKIN' GROUND GIRL," another person said.
"the united states isn’t real," another person said.
"US will be hosting World Cup in few days, this is becoming scary."
