I don't know about you, but I love a celebrity memoir that's almost a little too honest. The drama, the behind-the-scenes gossip, the absolutely unhinged stories — I want it all.
User AttorneyCharming9189 on Reddit asked, "What are the best celebrity memoirs with actual DRAMA, gossip, trauma, scandals etc?" and here are some of the responses:
1. "I loved Paris by Paris Hilton, specifically the audiobook with her reading it. It's such an interesting look into 2000s celebrity culture, the birth of the influencer and her experience being sent to the troubled teen industry by her family."
2. "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry is about his struggle with addiction. I loved it and thought he was very candid."
3. "Tell Me Everything by Minka Kelly was fabulous. She had a very hard life before she became an actor, and it was very different from any childhood I've read about before."
4. "Finding Me by Viola Davis is a fantastic book, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for her. She reads the audiobook herself, and it's a real treat to listen to."
5. "Madison Beer wrote a memoir called The Half of It, and I loved it. I thought it was really good. She was a child star and dealt with a lot of situations during that time, one of which was pretty crazy. She also touched on issues with management in the music industry."
6. "Spare by Prince Henry was a wild ride. That man needed help and is also insane."
7. "I just listened to Alyson Stoner’s autobiography Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything, and it was pretty good. It's also a similar time period as I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy. She talks a lot about the exploitation of child actors and shares some juicy stories about her co-stars."
8. "Just Kids by Patti Smith is wonderful. The audiobook, narrated by her, is especially great. A messy artist's life indeed."
9. "It’s been a while since I read it, but Troublemaker by Leah Remini is an interesting read about her experience with Scientology in Hollywood."
10. "Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show (While Also in an Actual Cult!) by By Bethany Joy Lenz from One Tree Hill was pretty wild."
12. "I'm about three-fourths of the way through Duff McKagan's autobiography, It's So Easy, and it checks a lot of those boxes. He's a good writer and brutally honest about the drugs, alcohol, price of fame, and collapse of friendships."
13. "Down the Drain by Julia Fox was a wild ride."
14. "Elvira has a memoir called Yours Cruelly, and it's juicy, scandalous, and a wild ride. That lady has been there and done that."
15. "Down the Rabbit Hole by Holly Madison, one of Hugh Hefner’s main girlfriends in the early 2000s, is super interesting!"
16. "Not Hollywood-related, but family vlogger Shari Franke's The House of My Mother: A Daughter's Quest for Freedom was really interesting."
17. "I highly recommend Inside Out by Demi Moore. Wow. It was so transparent, wise, and at times, brutal. It gave me a newfound respect for her."
18. "Rob Lowe's Stories I Only Tell My Friends isn't over the top, but it has a lot of stories about a celebrity kid's rise to fame, plus plenty of hijinks and partying."
19. "Lisa Marie Presley's memoir From Here to the Great Unknown was great. She held nothing back."
20. "High on Arrival by Mackenzie Phillips was insane. It's also a tough read in parts."
21. "How to Murder Your Life by Cat Marnell is wild. She’s not A-list, but she’s celebrity-adjacent."
22. "I just read Famesick by Lena Dunham and almost cried when I finished. It was a delicious read."
23. "Alison Arngrim had an unhinged upbringing but tells her story so well and with such heart and humor in her memoir Confessions of a Prairie Bitch."
24. "Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher immediately comes to mind."
25. And finally, "Boy George’s memoir Karma is messy. Plenty of gossip and drama for sure."
