Lupita Nyong’o responded to anti-Black backlash over her casting in The Odyssey.
The Kenyan-Mexican actor is Helen of Troy, famed as one of the most beautiful women in the world, in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer's epic. This has attracted backlash from the biggest right-wing losers, including Elon Musk, who called the decision to cast the Oscar winner "DEI."
In a new interview with Elle, Lupita reminded critics of a key fact: "This is a mythological story.”
"I’m very supportive of Chris’s intention with it and with the version of this story that he is telling. Our cast is representative of the world," she continued.
"I’m not spending my time thinking of a defense. The criticism will exist whether I engage with it or not," she continued, elsewhere adding, “It’s quite something to be a part of The Odyssey, because it is so grand. It spans worlds. So that’s why the cast is what it is. We’re occupying the epic narrative of our time.”
