Recently, a Reddit user asked readers to share the "nastiest" celebrities they've ever met, and before long, the replies filled up with some of the most horrific experiences I've personally ever read. Here's what they said.
The people who shared their stories allegedly speak from personal encounters. Obviously, we weren't there when they happened, so please take them with a grain of salt.
1. James Corden
"Did TV commercials with James Corden. He got paid an obscene amount for one day's work, which you would think would make him happy. But we spent 12 hours doing an 8-hour shoot because he kept stopping every 30 minutes or so to throw a fit and yell at everyone. Total asshat."
2. Jennifer Lopez
"I worked for a lot of famous people at their residences. The one that stood out the most was J.Lo. Iāve worked for people who could buy her entire life 10 times over that were more genuine and a pleasure to work for."
3. Katt Williams
"Used to park cars at a high-end spot in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. We had celebrities coming through all the time, and it wasnāt unusual for big names to throw parties at the property. Katt Williams came through, we asked him for his key fob (back when remote start was novel, and it was typical for people to walk off without handing it to us). It turned into a whole thing. He got in our valets' faces, yelled about how dumb we are, grabbed passersby off the sidewalk, and asked, 'Do you think they need the key? It sure looks like the car is running to me!' It went on for about five minutes, long after we gave up. The next car was randomly Ron Livingston, who wasn't even there for the same reason but watched it all happen. He hands me his key immediately and just says, 'Fucking celebrities, man.' I'll never not love that guy."
4. Jerry Seinfeld
"He was at a car show in the '90's and stopped to check out my car. I was super stoked and asked to take a picture with him and my car. It wasn't the 'no,' it was the belittling way it was delivered. I was just a kid and felt six feet tall in that moment. Fuck you, Jerry!"
5. Ashton Kutcher
"This guy is an ASSHOLE 100%. He came to our restaurant once and was rude as hell to everyone. The hostess, the server, the bussers. He was snapping his fingers left and right and absolutely had to make sure he was the loudest at his table and frankly the whole restaurant. He was mad that his table wasnāt in a private room, even though his party had not even contracted for one. We told him this, and he just flipped out like, 'Why tf do we need a contract, just close the fucking doors!' Meanwhile, they're in a room with other tables with guests at them. Just extremely out of touch and self-centered."
6. Gary Busey
"My mom, sister, and I were biking north on the Strand one morning, and we ended up passing Gary Busey. We were so surprised that we started giggling. He heard us and screamed back over his shoulder, 'Shut up, bitches!' Which, of course, just made us laugh harder."
7. Bill Cosby
"And this was in 2009, before we knew about the allegations. I was on my university's Activities Council, specifically on the Concert Board, so anytime the school brought concerts, guest speakers, etc. to campus, we'd help with promotion, setup, teardown, and other day-of logistics. In return, we got free tickets to all of the events and usually got to meet the performers. Bill Cosby was so genuinely unpleasant, cranky, and rude from the get-go. He had his rider that was given to staff ahead of time, detailing what he wanted to have in his dressing room, but as soon as he arrived, he demanded that one of our crew drive over an hour to a different city to pick up food from a BBQ restaurant he liked (that hadn't been on his rider, otherwise we would've planned for it)."
8. James Cameron
"I worked on visual effects on The Abyss (we called it 'The Abuse' a week into the experience). This is well known in the industry, but James Cameron is easily one of the most arrogant and smug assholes on the planet Earth. One day we had to wait for dailies to start because Cameron had a dental appointment. We finally assemble to watch dailies and Cameron comes in and sits in the front row. An executive that was sitting behind him leaned over and asked him how he was feeling after the dentist. Cameron turned around and in a very loud voice said, 'You work for me ā don't you ever ask me a personal question.' Classic Cameron."
9. Tiger Woods
"The absolute worst. The guy might be the most condescending prick Iāve ever met in my life. Iām not even a golf fan, but that drunkass can eat my fuck."
10. Drake
"Childrens hospital setting and was a dick to everyone including the kids."
11. Pharrell
"Pharrell was NASTY. I used to love him, too, when he was in N.E.R.D. I worked for MTV and interviewed loads of celebs."
12. Ariana Grande
"Ariana Grande was the rudest. Granted this was early on ā around her debut. Butā¦still. SO rude to everyone on our crew and behind the scenes."
13. will.i.am
"Not to me, but my uncle. He was the head of security at one of the big casinos in Vegas. He would be attached at the hip to a lot of celebrities and their entire entourage. According to him, will.i.am had rules to not look him in the eyes or talk to him without being talked to first, or he would have a temper tantrum. He would snap his fingers at his assistants and whistle at them like dogs (he had multiple). Also, his entire team would be in 'uniforms,' aka all dressed by him personally, so as not to mismatch/clash with whatever he was wearing. My uncle said he was by far the nastiest celebrity he's spent time with."
14. John Lithgow
"He had a place up in Montana, so I'd run into him at various places. He cut in line everywhere and was a complete ass about it. He cut me in line for the ski lift at least three times in a single day, and then in a restaurant that we were waiting for seating in later that afternoon. This was at the height of 3rd Rock From the Sun. He also cut my friend's mom in a grocery store and yelled at her when she politely said, 'Excuse me but I am next.'"
15. John Mellencamp
"I bumped into John Mellencamp in a grocery store in Bloomington. He was being a total dick to the cashier, so I yelled at him, 'Hey Mellencamp... Your last album sucked.' In the interest of transparency, I hadn't heard it but was just being mean."
16. Danica Patrick
"Danica Patrick came to my recording studio to do a voice-over for a TV show about racing. She LOST HER SHIT over the fact that it was, like, a two-hour session and not 30 minutes, then spent 30 minutes yelling at people on the phone, and when she started, it was really obnoxious to the producers over the phone listening in. It's typical for a voiceover talent to be asked to reread a line a little faster or slower because they're designed to match scenes, and when they did, she would yell at them how they are wasting her time, which took longer than just reading the part again. She probably got paid $100,000 or more for her work; it was, like, 10 episodes."
17. Jake Gyllenhaal
"My husband has worked on set with a lot of celebrities and says no one has ever been nearly as bad as Jake Gyllenhaal. A straight-up sociopath who could be incredibly cruel to PAs and turn around and smile at the director."
18. Nicole Scherzinger
"Nicole Scherzinger was awful af and straight up laughed at me, which is a trigger since I stutter (I work in hospitality and had to check her into her room and apologized for mispronouncing her last name with my stutter)."
19. Finally, Katy Perry
"I met Katy as a Disney character in 2015. She was extremely belittling to my co-performer, made backhanded comments about our hair (they were obviously wigs, Katy, get a grip), and then demanded we sing. Disney characters in the park are not allowed to sing. It was really weird overall."
